Confidentiality

Personal, and even hurtful information needs to be treated with considerable care, and it is important for Clients to feel comfortable enough to speak with trust about their concerns.

At Armstrong Psychology a number of steps are taken to protect your privacy, including keeping all electronic records and notes off-site, and password protected. Where correspondence to another clinician is required (for example a summary progress report to your GP) this is discussed with you.

There are very specific situations where material may by law be required to be released. If material is subpoenaed this must be made available to the court (but there a limits even here as to what would be made available). Where there is significant concern regarding your personal safety or the safety of others, this may need to be communicated as a way of minimising risk of harm to yourself or others.

Concerns about confidentiality can be discussed with the Clinical Psychologist at any time as treatment proceeds.
